Holed up: A Smithfield man told deputies someone shot at his house after he told ATV riders to leave his property, Sunday. He said he’d noticed a four-wheeler path cut into the woods behind his house and had blocked the entrance with caution tape, but the riders gather “every Friday and Saturday night after the bars close.” He said he saw them at the intersection of Allen and Michael streets and heard one of them say, “Let’s go down there” and another replied, “No, I’ve been drinking” and the group separated, but minutes later he heard what sound liked gunfire and the sound of a round hitting the back wall” of his house. He said he found the bullet holes the next day. Deputies found and inspected at least two bullet holes, recovering one of the rounds from the wall and after checking the trajectory reported the bullet appeared to have been fired from the intersection where the riders were gathered.

Caught in the act: A woman en route to visit family said a man driving in front of her on township Road 217 threw a dog out of his vehicle, Sunday. She said she yelled at the man “and he just drove off.” She got a picture of his license plate.

Charged: An Empire man was taken into custody after his roommate claimed he’d threatened to shoot her, Saturday. Deputies said Thomas Leroy Platt, 49, 404 Liberty St., Empire, was booked into the county jail on a pending charge of intimidation after the woman told dispatchers she was locked in the bathroom and he’d twice threatened to shoot her. She said she came home from a work trip and found he’d gone through her things in her absence and said he started an argument and then shoved her into the bathroom door, and told deputies while she was trying to call 911 he told her he would shoot her but the dispatcher did not hear any threats. He told deputies he owns the house and lets her stay there, but they do not have a romantic relationship nor do they share children and he denied threatening or shoving the woman. He told deputies he found her ex-boyfriend’s knife in her things and claims that when he told her he didn’t want the man in his house she smacked him in the back. Neither of them had any redness or signs of injury.

Ongoing problems: Wintersville brothers had to be separated after a disagreement over a battery for a vaping device they use, Friday. One of them called deputies after he said his older brother “pushed him backward very hard,” then pushed him again and was arguing. Things escalated until he went into his room and called for help, but he told deputies he doesn’t want his brother to get into trouble, “he just wants him to leave the home” because he’s “tired of being assaulted by (him).” Deputies spoke with his brother, who told them he was playing a video game and told his younger brother he’d “get it after he finished.” He said his younger brother was yelling when he got up to get the battery so he pushed him back in his chair and told deputies his brother “just likes to start drama and … has called 911 numerous times to get everyone in the house arrested and he is not happy because it is not working.” He admitted to drinking and deputies noted he “appeared to be under the influence of something due to (his) pinpoint pupils.” Deputies spoke with another family member who told them he heard the two of them arguing and a loud bang,” and when deputies pointed out alcohol seems to be the common factor in (law enforcement) being called to the house” he agreed and said there was “only one person that does not understand that.”

Unhappy ex: A Dillonvale man said his step-daughter’s ex-boyfriend cut the catalytic converter off her car, Saturday. He said the vehicle is still in his name but he’s in the process of transferring to her.

Reported: A caller reported hearing three or four gun shots in the vicinity of Queensboro Street, Mingo Junction, Friday. Deputies searched the area but found nothing out of the area nor did they hear any shots fired.

Fallen tree: A Rayland man on his way to work said he hit a tree in the roadway on county Road 1 (Narrows Road), Friday. He managed to get his vehicle home, and the county highway department removed the tree.

Stolen: A Richmond resident said an electric drill, gas-powered hedge trimmers, the starter from a tractor, two-cycle gasoline and about two gallons of regular gasoline in a can were missing from his property, Sunday.

Bothered: A Steubenville-area woman said a man with a bandanna wrapped around his head was either videoing or taking pictures of her, Saturday. She said her son and daughter-in-law are going through a divorce and the daughter-in-law “may have something to do with it. She was able to do take a picture of the license plate.

Creeping people: Bloomingdale residents were concerned about a couple taking pictures of their property and children, Sunday. The couple told deputies they were playing Pokemon Go and Bloomingdale is a “hot spot for spawn.” Deputies advised them of the dangers of taking pictures of other peoples’ property and children.

Steubenville Police

Walk in: An Oregon Avenue resident said a man broke into his residence and was fighting with the homeowner, Sunday. Police found the intruder “slouched over in a chair near the kitchen table,” and while still breathing “was not coherent or alert enough to speak” with them. They escorted him out of the residence and sat him on the porch, and said when they tried to retrieve his ID, a “small bag of crack” fell out of his pocket.
